I_decoratori

The list of great decorators is a handbook of Piedmont’s art history and starts with Giacomo Jaquerio’s refreshing International Gothic, then continues with the Emilia-style Renaissance of Giovanni Martino Spanzotti and the elegant Late-Flemish tendencies of Defendente Ferrari. Gaudenzio and his school, including the noteworthy Bernardino Lanino then reached maturity. Guglielmo Caccia or Moncalvo was the Palma the Younger of Piedmont, at the height of the Counter-Reformation. Next came the Caravaggio tempest with followers, supporters and late admirers of the Classical style: Giovanni Antonio Molineri, Bartolomeo Caravoglia, Andrea Pozzo, Jan Claret. Extensive frescoed walls were painted by Giovanni Carlo Aliberti, Stefano Maria Legnani, Mattia Bortoloni, and the highly talented Pier Francesco Guala Claudio Francesco Beaumont was the Boucher of Piedmont, followed at a distance by Michele Antonio Milocco.
